SCIENCE+C Professional Development Model
The SCIENCE+C year-round professional development model consists of three interrelated elements: Flexible Online Orientation Activities, Facilitated Online Workshops, and Collaborative Webinars.
Online Synchronous Orientation Meeting
The two-hour online synchronous orientation meeting takes place at an agreed-upon time prior to the initial Online Workshop. This meeting provides an overview to the year-long professional development program, an opportunity to connect with project participants and facilitators, and an introduction to the NetLogo programmable modeling environment.
Facilitated Online Workshops
Facilitated Online Workshops take place over three consecutive days in the Summer, one day in the Fall, and one day in the Spring. These sessions provide an opportunity to collaborate around both skill-building and pedagogy. Activities include subject-specific lesson study, practice teaching, and dialogue around successes and challenges of implementing the SCIENCE+C curriculum.
Collaborative Webinars take place twice per week during three separate weeks in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. The weekly webinar pairings provide participants the opportunity to focus on individual units of their subject-specific SCIENCE+C curriculum. In the first webinar of each weekly pairing, participants experience the unit content as learners. In the follow-up webinar that same week, participants collaborate with colleagues to develop instructional strategies for use with their own students.
